She looks like how I wish Gabrielle Union looked.
Someone sent me an message recently asking me what Hood Futurism is so I thought I would make a post to explain.
In the simplest sense it is what I observe to be a fusion of black urban subculture style and futuristic aesthetic that exist in contemporary black performance and art. Inspired by Afro Futurism, Hood Futurism is centered around contemporary black artistry combined with themes like sci-fi, science, and other components that have futuristic elements. Some of most prominent examples of this concept can be found in hip hop, r&b, soul, and rap music performance and video as we see in the gifs above; but it also extends to fashion and visual art.
I started this blog out of curiosity, and to explore the possibility of what black urban subcultures would look like in the future. What would we create? how would we evolve?
I hope to answer those questions and maybe in the future create some interesting art in the style of this concept.
